DOC Dairy Partners B.V. acquires Uniekaas

DOC Dairy Partners B.V. has acquired the brand and the Dutch business operations of Uniekaas. These includes the company’s complete maturing, packaging and production facilities in Kaatsheuvel, the Netherlands. The acquisition is a logical step in DOC Dairy Partners' strategy to expand in European growth markets.

As a result, DOC will operate an entire production chain, enabling stronger competition with other cheese producers. This will bring clear benefits to the cheese market in the Netherlands, notably in terms of greater variety. Financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed.

Certain Uniekaas activities are not part of the transaction and will continue under the name Best Cheese Holland. They include, among others, the brands Tjiezi and Parrano. Besides the Dutch market, Best Cheese Holland will focus on international markets, especially the United States and Southeast Asia.

Ron Krekels, Director of DOC Dairy Partners: "We are delighted to have reached agreement with Uniekaas, a renowned Dutch brand. The acquisition is a logical step in our strategy to expand in key European growth markets. DOC Dairy Partners is a supplier of Gouda Holland cheese (PGI) and cheese made from ‘meadow milk’ (milk coming from cows that constantly graze in the green Dutch meadows), especially as private label. With this acquisition, we now have a leading cheese brand and the ability to do our own maturing and packaging. That gives us important competitive advantages."

Willem Jan Rote and Paul Wilde, management of Uniekaas: "We are convinced that the Uniekaas brand and our production facilities in Kaatsheuvel are in good hands with DOC Dairy Partners. Best Cheese Holland, our new organization, will focus on the Parrano, Tjiezi, Melkbus and Coach Farm brands in North America, Europe and Asia. These brands are showing healthy growth and offer us plenty of opportunities. Together with Antea Participaties and Van Vliet, we will invest in further growth."

The transaction will be submitted to the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) and the Austrian Competition Authority (BWB). It is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2017.
